Sports and Spinal Injury Clinic

Neck pain is a fairly common complaint with many possible causes. Many people have had mild neck pain from time to time that goes away in a day or two. In some cases, however, neck pain can persist or be more severe.

Neck pain has many possible causes, including:

  • Arthritis or joint inflammation
  • Trauma or injury
  • Worry and stress
  • Falling asleep in an awkward position
  • Prolonged use of a computer keyboard

There may be several reasons why someone is experiencing neck pain; specific diagnosis may be difficult. Multiple factors may be contributing to the problem and need to be identified. The underlying problem could be an irritated disc, loss of the normal curve in the neck, structural damage to the joint and osteoporosis.

Also, road traffic accidents involving whiplash injury may result in acute or chronic pain that takes several months to improve.

More Information About

Sometimes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome may actually originate from a problem with your neck. Nerves in the lower neck come together to form the Brachial Plexus and these nerves communicate to different regions of the hands and arms.
